The Directory for Kilburn Village
The surest way of finding good, reliable, businesses and traders is the recommendation of friends and neighbours. Which is why we asked members of the Kilburn Village Residents Association for their suggestions. We published the first printed Directory for Kilburn Village, in 2004, with print run of five thousand and distributed it to all the households in the Kilburn Village area.
We set out to provide a directory tailored precisely to help the people in the streets to which we delivered. So we included as much other stuff as we could find: Community organisations, the Council, healthcare, schools, sports centres, transport links and markets were all added. And we made sure only relevant stuff was included; for example we listed only local post offices – not every one in North West London!
We wanted to make sure that our information is accurate and reliable. So we made sure that listings have a satisfied customer living locally. Every suggestion we get is carefully considered before being added to our live database, to make sure the details are correct and relevant to the areas in which we publish.
Now, over five years on, we still list only businesses and organisations that the community can trust. You can search for a suggestion or recommend a local tradesman or service.
As an ethical business we take our responsibilities seriously. We do not list or advertise businesses or organisations who seem to us to have questionable practices. Get-rich-quick schemes like pyramid selling or firms with excessive charges (however legal) are just not included.
So no scams, no premium-rate phone numbers, no upfront fees, no astronomical loan rates – just fair deals.
The next printed edition of the Directory for Kilburn Village will be published in February 2012.

Kilburn Village Residents’ Association
Kilburn Village is an active residents association in the area bounded by Salusbury Road, Hartland Road, Tennyson Road, Willesden Lane, Kilburn High Road and Brondesbury Villas. We focus on improving the environment, amenities and safety of the local area. We believe that as a constituted body and combined force we can have more effect on Brent Council and utility companies.
We help represent the needs of residents to those making decisions about our area – including the Police, Transport Authorities, the Regeneration Board and particularly Brent Council officers concerned with trees, street-care, rubbish collection, lighting, pavements and the local Conservation Area. We have a direct dialogue with Brent departments and have worked out protocols to get things done.
We have campaigned successfully on many issues – such as traffic calming, street trees, flood relief, the CPZ and monitoring its use, planning applications, highway cleansing, rubbish collection, conservation and green open space. We are currently working to increase open space on the proposed re-development of Kilburn Square and working with other residents’ associations to ensure a co-ordinated response to the Queen’s Park Station proposals.
Membership of Kilburn Village is free – we produce a news-sheet a few times a year, we sometimes ask members to sign petitions. Many of our 200 or so members attend at least one the two meetings we hold each year.
However, our real effectiveness depends on people joining the working groups on various issues. Some working groups such as ‘planning’, ‘pavements and lighting’ and the CPZ have been constantly active. Without a large membership we will not have the influence and without people contributing time to help a working group, none of our activities would be possible.
We welcome everyone who lives in this area.
